Rafael Miguel, MD*
Dr. Miguel was born in Havana, Cuba and grew up in Miami, Florida. He attended medical school at the University of Cadiz in Cadiz, Spain and completed his Residency in Anesthesiology at Tulane University in New Orleans. After this he entered private practice at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa and realized that while he enjoyed practicing at a Level I Trauma Center what he liked most was teaching and research. Therefore he entered the University of South Florida and proceeded up the academic ranks reaching the level of tenured Professor of Anesthesiology, Neurology and Neurosurgery.
Dr. Miguel has lectured extensively throughout Europe and Latin America as well as the USA. He has published extensively in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine topics and presently serves on the Editorial Boards of several journals. He has served as President of the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, Chairman of the USF Department of Anesthesiology, Vice-Chair of the Florida Board of Medicine and was Program Director of the USF Pain Medicine Fellowship for 10 years. He presently has a practice affiliated with the University of South Florida and has clinics in Brandon and Sarasota.
